Anger is one of the emotions that comes naturally to man. Nobody teaches a child to be angry; it comes ‘naturally’ to the child. Some religious people have associated it with the Adamic nature. But the reality is, anger in itself is not a sin, but when anger is not managed or takes some wrongful dimensions, it can result in sinful actions and responses from the person. This is why the Bible charges us; “be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath” (Ephesians 4:26). This is not an excuse for anger as there are more dangers of anger that a believer should put it away as admonished in Ephesians 4:31.
What are the issues with anger a believer should be wary of? When anger results in bitterness, malice, violence, unedifying actions and responses, it is a red flag all is not well and sin has overtaken it. When anger results in unforgiveness, sin has entered. When anger makes you to act against the will and counsel of God, sin has crept in and it is dangerous to your eternity.
Another thing to consider is easy provocation when you are easily angered, it means you need to seek help. When your heart is perfect in love, you will not be easily provoked (1 Corinthians 13:5). When you are quick to anger, you may be struggling with a temper problem and need to ask God for help. Anger has caused some people pains and losses through their actions, reactions and decisions. Finally, if you are praying and still struggling with anger, seek professional help from a counsellor or clinical psychologist who can help with anger management. Be blessed.
“Dear Lord, today I pray that you will uproot any trace of bitterness, malice or hatred from my heart in Jesus’ name. Amen.”
